what to expect out of PreCon001 | Storage and Virtualization for DBAs

Hi Friends,

As you know SQLServerGeeks Annual Summit 2015 has parallel pre-con seminars, each delivered by a Master! The very first Pre-Con is “Storage and Virtualization for DBAs” and the speaker is none other than Denny Cherry. Yes, isn’t this awesome. I was so excited to know about this pre-con that I requested Amit to allow me to attend this session.

This is a must attend Pre-Con/training for DBAs and Architects. The training covers two most common burning issues in every environment that is how to properly design your Storage and Virtualization solution.

P2V (Physical to Virtual) movement is the next big move and every organization is looking forward to it. Virtualization does help in cost saving, but at the same time affects performance badly if not planned well. That’s where this training comes to the rescue – this training will helps you access and decide if virtualization is a good idea or not for a given scenario & also teaches you how to gather the metrics that you need in order to come to this decision.

On the other side, Storage can be one of the biggest bottlenecks when it comes to database performance. It’s also one of the hardest places to troubleshoot performance issues because storage engineers and database administrators often do not speak the same language. In this session, you’ll be looking at storage from both the database and storage perspectives.

If you don’t know much about LUNs, HBAs, fabric, RAID groups, multi-pathing software and proper redundant storage network design this is the training for you which will not only teach you about these terminologies but also helps you understand about storage level clones and snapshots and how these can best be used to back up the SQL Server environment to provide maximum redundancy with no recurring tape costs.

In a nutshell, you will be able to tie the virtual platforms to the storage array so that you can maximize the storage performance of your SQL Servers and the virtual environment.

Why to consider Denny Cherry as a Master for this Pre-Con session?
